Miss Sharpe graduated from Wayne State University (WSU) in 2005 with a Bachelor of Music and Teacher Certification. While there she studied privately under the tutelage of Mario DiFiore, a renowned cellist for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. She was also a member of the WSU Orchestra. During college Cecelia worked as Liaison and Librarian for the Sphinx Organization. Ms. Sharpe was also employed from 2005-2008 with the Sphinx Organization as a teacher and assistant dean for the Sphinx Preparatory Academy at Wayne State University. Upon graduation she taught orchestra for 2 years at Marvin L.Winans Academy of Performing Arts. In 2007 Ms. Sharpe taught orchestra as a long term substitute teacher for Birmingham Covington School. Ms. Sharpe served as conductor for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Civic Youth Ensembles from 2006 - 2013. Ms. Sharpe was the Manager of Education Programs for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. She managed partnerships with schools, universities and other organizations. In 2013 Ms. Sharpe was appointed to the position of Music and Arts Program Coordinator for the University of Michigan at the Detroit School of Arts. For Ms. Sharpe this was a full circle moment to graduate from DSA and then return years later to work with educators in her former music educational institution. She is honored and humbled to share her experience and expertise in music education with staff and students.
In addition to her role as an advocate for youth and the arts, Ms. Sharpe is also pursuing her passion for radio. Since 2014 she has been sharing her voice on WRCJ 90.9 FM. Ms. Sharpe’s natural talent for radio hosting was acknowledged by members of the WRCJ staff and they have taken her in to groom this promising talent. Ms. Sharpe serves as a guest host for Chris Felcyn’s The Well-Tempered Wireless and Dave Wagner’s Dr. Dave’s Drive-Time Elixir. Under the mentorship of Mr. Felcyn and Mr. Wagner she has an increased presence at the station and has been involved in a variety of station events. She has also been afforded the opportunity to use this platform to stress the importance of the arts and to promote Urban Stringz.
Ms. Sharpe is an active freelance musician. She currently performs with well-noted Detroit area artists and provides string instruments for recordings.
